Ascent

Resplendent in regal white,
Notwithstanding
the inconsolable tears
Of those near and dear-
She took to the skies,
Beginning the ultimate flight-
That was but destined
For every soul,
To have ever taken birth.

(The sudden death of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam – a visionary scientist and role model to millions, came as a rude shock and has caused me to reflect on the transient nature of our lives, which we so often take for granted. He led by example and has shown us what it is like to live in the service of your motherland and compatriots.)
